Several temperature-sensitive paleoclimate proxies, including tree rings, stalagmite and historical documents, are employed to derive regional temperature signals during 1779-1985 by using Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) Analysis. The EOF series could explain 52% variance of observed summer temperature, which is significantly correlated with gridded temperature datasets over North-East China, Korean Peninsula and part of Japan, namely the Northeast Asia. Based on statistical correlation between EOF series and observed temperature record, we reconstruct and extend regionally summer temperature variations from 1779 to 2009. The intervals with persistent decadal warmth and cold periods are detected in the past 231 years. In addition, some possible forcing factors of the regional temperature variability also are investigated in this study.
